Flóran Café/Bístró 

 

Floran - Garden Café/Bistro is located in the center of the plant and herb collections in the Botanical gardens of Reykjavík. Our restaurant is strongly inspired by the location. In our garden and greenhouse we grow a large portion of the raw material used in the kitchen, lettuce, herbs and flowers, all organic.

That way our guests can learn about plants and herbs in their journey around the garden and enjoy healthy and delicious food made from them in the gazebo.

This opening hours is to protect plants that are in the restaurant. Flóran will close 2nd of September.

Food & Drinks

 

The menu

Our menu consists of classic and new courses that are inspired by Scandinavian food culture and are made with ingredients that we grow in our garden and greenhouse. The rest of our ingredient comes from the farmers around the country. Our menu is seasonal and changes regularly. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 11am
to 3pm.

Drinks

Try our home made lemonade or a nice beer from a local brewery. A range of organic wine and beer is on our menu, made to fit with the food. Flóran’s happy hour is from 17-19 every day where drinks are on a reduced price and as well as a special light snack menu, designed to accompany your drinks.

Ingredients

We believe that food tastes best when it comes from the freshest ingredient possible. At Flóran we use as much of organic fruit and vegetables as possible, a large part of which we grow in our herb and vegetables garden and greenhouse. We trade with the local farmers without a middleman to get the best quality ingredients possible while trading in a fair way.

Our goal is to provide our customers with high quality food, made from scratch in our kitchen. We seek to provide a unique experience where food and environment play together. We are an environmentally conscious restaurant and support our local community.

Catering Service

 

Our catering service has been very popular since Flóran opened in 1997. Flóran offers all types of parties, big and small, both to keep the enclosures scene and beyond. All dishes banquet service are equipped with the finest ingredients. During the winter season we grow raw material ourself and in the summertime we use almost exclusively with our own crops.
 

We hand select all the raw materials that we can not grow ourselves and strive as much as possible to buy organic ingredients directly from the countryside. So we can guarantee the freshness and flavour of the highest quality.

Marentza Poulsen

Marentza Poulsen was born and raised in the Faroe Islands with her food loving parents and moved in her teens with her family to Iceland. Since her career began within the restaurant sector Marentza started first at Saga Hotel and later at Hótel loftleiðum. When she was 18 years old she went to Copenhagen where Traditionnal smörrebröd jómfrúin was born, Marentza has strong feelings for the Danish food tradition as well as the influence of her mother who knew how to exploit and make delicious meals from leftovers. 

Since Marentza moved back to Iceland, her live has more or less revolved around food and catering as well the related courses. These include the position of restaurant manager for many years in Oddfellow House and Hótel Borg, managing café's and summer hotel in Skálholt.

Marentza has held an array of courses where attempts to direct Icelanders into the right path in terms of Christmas preparations, facilities of all sizes and table decorations to mention little peanut table that grace many of households in Advent. Marentza opened Flóran in the Botanical Gardens in 1997 and has Flóran grown and develop from year to year since then.

Flóran Café/Bistro is unique because of it's location. It is a chance for people to go the tranquility of the botanical gardens an get away from the hectic things and traffic in the city without leaving it.

Flóran also has a very popular and diverse catering service that is open all year. 

 

Opening hours

Flóran Café/Bistró is finally open and the opening hours are from 10am to 7pm. The kitchen closes at 6.30 pm.
